Who this policy covers
This policy covers Border Automotive Solutions Pty Ltd (ABN 38 676 776 051), trading as Border Automotive Solutions, and the windscreen quote tool at this website. We handle personal information under the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What we collect
- A photo of your vehicle, which usually shows your number plate.
- Your name, phone number and email address.
- Details you give us about the damage and your vehicle.
- The quote itself, and any booking you make.
We don't ask for anything beyond what's needed to quote and carry out the job.
How we use your photo
Your photo is sent to an AI service — Claude, made by Anthropic — which runs on computers in the United States, so it can suggest your vehicle's make, model and glass type. Anthropic doesn't use your photo to train its models. Because your photo leaves Australia, Australian privacy law can't hold an overseas provider to the same standard it holds us to (Australian Privacy Principle 8). Some quotes come back to you immediately as a provisional estimate; others are checked by our team first before we come back to you with a price.
Who we share information with
We don't sell your information or use it for marketing. We only share it with:
- Anthropic, to read your photo as described above.
- The companies that host this website and store our records.
- Anyone we're required to by law.
How long we keep it
We keep different things for different lengths of time, because a quote photo and a completed job record aren't the same kind of thing. In short: photographs are kept only as long as it takes to produce your quote and settle the job, quotes that were never taken up are kept for a shorter period, and a completed job's record is kept for the life of its workmanship warranty. The exact periods are being finalised with our lawyer and will be published here once confirmed — ask us any time and we'll tell you what applies to your job.
Asking for your information, or for it to be deleted
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, at any time. We'll do that unless we're required to keep something for a warranty, insurance or legal reason, in which case we'll tell you why.
Security
Your photo isn't published anywhere — it's kept in a private store and only staff can view it. Your quote link is private to you and isn't guessable from another one.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, contact us first — we'd rather sort it out directly. If you're still not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
